Last week, we saw Auston Matthews compete against Mitch Marner in NHL 18 and the chirps were flying, but things were brought to the next level this week in the official championship game.

We’re not really sure how this tournament works, because Auston Matthews faced Frederik Andersen in what was called a semi-final match and Zach Hyman hadn’t played a game since episode 8 of the tournament, but this was clearly the final if you look at Auston Matthews’ celebration.

Not only does he get to take home a Leafs belt which he’s pretty pumped about, but he drops some pretty savage chirps on Hyman in his post-game interview.

Considering the performance he put up in the game, Matthews had the right to be pretty confident.

You can watch the full game or series on the Maple Leafs website and going to the Leafs Nation Network tab, but the highlight of the game was no doubt this penalty-shot goal from Matthews. He goes “through the boots” as he would describe it and shelfs it on Hyman’s goalie to tie the game up before eventually taking it home 5-4.

Clearly it hasn’t messed with the linemates’ chemistry too much, because they’re both on pace for career years in their second season together.
