Auston Matthews is by no means thrilled about adding another shoulder injury to his NHL resume but he understands that these types of things happen in the game.

In a game against the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday, Matthews was involved in a scary collision with Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba that forced him to leave the ice. The 21-year-old was asked about the injury but didn’t seem to have any hard feelings for Trouba, insisting that he simply did what he was supposed to do.

Trouba wasn’t awarded a penalty and any hockey fan who witnessed the action can agree that the guy was just simply doing his job. Still, Matthews is obviously disappointed with the outcome and understands he’s in for yet another mental test in his young career.

The American endured an injury to his other shoulder last season and was forced to miss a total of 20 games. Through 11 contests, he leads the Leafs with 16 points and will surely fall out of the Hart Trophy as a result. Despite it all, it’s nice to see the guy doesn’t have any hard feelings.
