It’s been a rough year for the Edmonton Oilers, but Connor McDavid is still doing his thang.

Coming off of a Hart Trophy and Art Ross campaign, ‘McJesus’ has been lightning the NHL up again this season and continuing to make his case as the NHL’s best player. Despite a 7-3 collapse at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets, the 21-year-old still managed to make history in the home defeat. With a goal and an assist, McDavid became the first player since Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin to post back-to-back 100 point seasons. The two players previously accomplished the feat in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 regular seasons.

On a more sour note, McDavid now finds himself with the same company for the wrong reasons. He will soon join Sakic, Ovy, Crosby and Thornton as the only players to miss the playoffs with a 100 point season since the 1996-97 season.

It’s hard to believe the Richmond Hill native still sits atop of the league in points considering Edmonton’s woeful season. McDavid doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him top the century mark in 2018-19, something Crosby has yet to do during his illustrious 13 year career.
