Nashville Predators forward Mike Fisher made his long anticipated return to NHL action last night after announcing his comeback January 31st. Fisher retired after the Preds’ trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2017, but decided to rejoin the team in what has been another memorable season in Nashville. The 37-year-old signed a team-friendly one year- $1 million contract to stay with the club.

Some may have expected the veteran to show some rust, but Fisher didn’t waste any time at all making his presence felt on the ice. In Nashville’s road game against the Vancouver Canucks, the Peterborough native scored a goal in just the second period on a rebound from teammate Filip Forsberg. Perhaps more impressively, he went 10/10 in the faceoff circle.

Fisher also managed to reach another unique milestone in the win. With his tally, he became the first player in NHL history to score in a NHL alumni game and score for an NHL team in the same season. Fisher participated in the Ottawa Senators’ Alumni Classic ahead of the Senators’ outdoor game against the Montreal Canadiens in Lansdowne Park.

With their former captain back in the mix, the Preds now boast a center group which also features Ryan Johansen, Kyle Turris and Nick Bonino. After two misses in the Stanley Cup Final (the other coming in 2007 with the Sens), Fisher will be hungrier than ever to capture his first championship when the postseason kicks off in April.
