For many hockey players, having a luscious head of hair is the go-to look. But for the Montreal Canadiens, helping raise money for charity takes precedence over looking good on the ice.

Yesterday, defencemen Karl Alzner and Jeff Petry along with forward Andrew Shaw headlined a group of Canadiens players to shave their head for Leucan; an organization committed to helping cancer-stricken children and their families. All three players, namely Shaw, have grown their hair out in years past, so it’s no surprise that each one now looks entirely different.

It’s nice to see Alzner is also still rocking his Movember muzzy.

Each player has been able to raise an impressive amount of money for the charity so far. According to Leucan’s website, Shaw has managed to collect $5,365, Alzner has totaled $1,050, and Petry has brought in $2,570. The Canadiens have already reached $33,890, and their total fundraising goal sits at $300,000.

Canadiens rookie Charles Hudon leads the team by quite a large margin. The Quebec native has already accumulated $8,392, good enough for 2.8% of the team’s total.

It’s hard for anyone to part with their hair, but it’s nice to see players realize that making a sacrifice can truly go a long way.

Besides, the shaved head look is pretty cool.
