It was a very rough year for the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs could seem to get anything going on offence or defence, and even star goaltender Carey Price did not look like himself, sporting a .900 save percentage to go along with a 3.11 GAA. All in all, it was a year to forget for the franchise.

Saying that, they are hoping to build off their mistakes. According to general manager Marc Bergevin, one of those mistakes was their attitude.

Back in April, Bergevin made comments about the attitude of the team which proceeded to make some waves with unhappy fans. They believed that he wasn’t taking responsibility for his own team, and blaming it on the players instead (although he did say he takes his share).

In an effort to ensure that the team doesn’t run into similar attitude problems, they have a new mantra to go by. Entering training camp, the Canadiens were given shirts that read “Attitude is Everything”.

Not quite sure if that’s the message you want to be sending your players considering how much backlash it received in April, but the message itself is sound enough. Attitude is one of the most important factors of a winning team, and it is something that can always be improved upon.

Saying that, backlash brewing in 3… 2… 1…
