In what is now one of the more infamous matches in Grand Slam history, 20-year-old Naomi Osaka,  defeated fan favourite and uncontested G.O.A.T Serena Williams in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

While the underdog-esque magic of a young athlete beating her childhood idol was lost amid the drama that unfolded in the second set of the match, the magnitude of Osaka’s inevidable stardom should not be understated.

Osaka collected a cool $3.8 million dollar pay cheque for her win on Saturday, and is currently on a high-level endorsement deal with Adidas that is set to expire before 2019.

The Times has reported that Adidas will announce Osaka’s alleged new deal on Thursday, and its reported to be somewhere between $8.5 and $10 million. This unfathomable deal will not only make her Adidas’ highest paid female athlete ever, but the second highest paid woman in sports (guess who she’s one behind!).

While the general consensus was that Osaka was treated unfairly by fans who booed incessantly when Williams lost, we’d imagine that Naomi is probably over it by now, and if she isn’t she’ll have a couple bills to dry her tears with very soon.
