Could Aaron Rodgers be on the move?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, multiple teams complained to the NFL last week that the Packers violated league rules regarding players who are eligible to be placed on injured reserve and that the team should have to release Rodgers as a result.

The two-time MVP was brought back from injured reserve for a week 15 contest against the Carolina Panthers but lost the contest and ultimately saw his team’s playoff hopes dwindle away with it. Rodgers, who had screws placed in his injured collarbone, was placed back on injured reserve afterward. NFL rules state, however, that a player needs to have suffered a new injury that would sideline him at least six weeks. If that is not the case, then the team is obligated to release that player.

Rodgers left the game due to “soreness”, but no other damage was revealed. He was initially injured in an October 15 meeting with the Minnesota Vikings and threw three picks in his return- the most he has thrown in one game since 2009.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy claimed there was no issue and that the team followed the necessary procedure and guidelines.

The following is an excerpt from kansascity.com

“Frankly, I don’t see any issue with Aaron Rodgers going on IR,” McCarthy said Sunday on the team’s website. “My understanding is we communicated and we followed the procedures and guidelines you have to, to put a player on IR. From our perspective, there’s no issue.”

Schefter reported that “nobody expects” Rodgers to be released. It's hard to believe Packers fans would allow the league to take away their prized all-star, but if he was forcefully let go, Rodgers would be placed on waivers and would likely be claimed immediately... by the last place Cleveland Browns.

Can you imagine?
