With the NHL season officially over now, Canadian referee Garrett Rank can fully focus on another passion of his – golf. While many players and refs around the league love to hit the links on the off-season, Rank’s situation is a little more unique. You see, he’s really, really good at golf.

He’s so good that he is one of three Canadians to qualify for the spot in the US Open, joining Adam Hadwin and Mackenzie Hughes. The PGA Major Championship is a huge honour to qualify for, so it’s certainly not something to scoff at. According to Rank, one player thought he should maybe quit his day job to focus a little more on the hobby.

NHL players don’t hold back when it comes to chirping refs 😂

Whether he needs to deflect more chirps because of it or not, there’s no doubt Rank’s accomplishment is extremely impressive. To be officiating at the highest level of hockey while playing a tournament at the highest level of golf is a mighty fine balancing act that has Canadians applauding the Elmira, Ontario native.
