Game 1 between the Jets and Habs did not end the way either team (and its fans) were hoping for, as Jake Evans found himself on the wrong side of a dangerous Mark Scheifele hit after scoring a game-sealing empty-netter. A scrum quickly ensued but one player managed to keep a cool head after the scary play, protecting Evans from any further injury as things got rough.

As Getty Images photographer David Lipnowski managed to capture, Nikolaj Ehlers stood his ground and made sure Evans was given space following the play. It’s even more remarkable when you consider he Dane is just 6’0, 172 pounds.

Ehlers was also the player who signaled for additional help from both team’s medical staffs. He explained his perspective of the events on the ice following the game.

Evans was ultimately stretchered off the ice but is reportedly doing ‘a little better’, according to head coach Dominique Ducharme.

We’re hoping for the best for Evans, and we’re sure he’ll appreciate Ehelrs’ actions if he eventually sees this photo.
