For over 36 years, the Flames and Oilers have battled on the ice for supremacy of Alberta, and many great hockey moments have come out of their heated rivalry.

That being said, this season's edition of the "Battle of Alberta" was one Flames fans probably want erased from the history books.

Saturday night, Edmonton embarrassed Calgary in their own building by routing them 7-3, and with the win, the Oil made a little bit of history by doing something they've never done in the history of the rivalry.

Unlike last season when they squared off five times, the Oilers and Flames only play each other four times this season, which obviously helps in terms of them making history.

Back in the 1983-84 season, Edmonton came close to winning every meeting against Calgary, but a tie ruined that.

Aside from a 2-1 win, the games haven't been close this season and the Flames couldn't extinguish Edmonton's offence.

The win also moved Edmonton nine points clear of Calgary for third place in the Pacific Division, so not only was it ugly to watch for Flames fans, but the loss also impacted the standings.

There's always next season, or the playoffs, to get some revenge, though.
