Alex Ovechkin is the greatest scorer of his generation but man, can he also lay the BOOM.

After an early first round exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the 33-year-old travelled to Slovakia to represent Russia at the 2019 IIHF World Hockey Championship where he’s unsurprisingly having himself a tournament. Ovi helped Russia defeat the USA 4-3 in their quarterfinal matchup and he managed to follow through with the biggest hit of the tournament in the process. As defenceman Brady Skjei played the puck near Russia’s bench, Ovechkin literally sent him back-flipping into their bench.

Did Skjei crack a little smile there? This picture ought to give him a good chuckle.

This, of course, was not the first time Ovi’s laid a thunderous hit during international play. Let’s kick things back to the 2010 Olympics for a second, where the Moscow native sent Jaromir Jagr into another dimension en route to an Evgeni Malkin goal.

BANG!
