The change to 3-on-3 overtime hockey in the NHL has led to a faster, generally more exciting extra period, and it seems like players as well as fans have been in favour of the change.

Initially, Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice wasn’t a fan of the idea — obviously, 3-on-3 is absolute mania from a coaching perspective — but it’s even won him over! In delightfully Paul Maurice version, he dropped a fantastic quote about overtime after the game.

Emphasis: "A free for all of fecal matter. It's a [expletive] show out there and that's great."

So, 3-on-3 hockey is chaotic good.

The Jets eventually beat the Leafs in a shootout after a wild overtime period that featured some crazy scoring chances and some great saves. If the 3-on-3 is mania for coaches, then the shootout is basically random. Idea: Why don’t we just have more overtime?

Freddy gets it.
