The Toronto Maple Leafs came away with a 7-4 victory over the Anaheim Ducks last night, but the game didn’t end with all good news for the Buds. Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen was forced to leave the game after Corey Perry inadvertently kicked him in the head. Andersen immediately went down and went straight to the locker room afterward.
Luckily for Leaf fans, their prized netminder was in between the pipes today and everything seems to be okay. Head coach Mike Babcock even claimed that Andersen’s fine and that the team will “see what goes on tomorrow.”
Perry has been known as one of the league’s biggest pests throughout his career but he made it very clear afterward that injuring Andersen was a complete accident. The two were teammates together in Anaheim and the Peterborough native made sure to check up on his old friend.
For all the Perry haters out there, perhaps this provided some further insight that he’s not all that bad after all. Perry did not receive a penalty on the play, so clearly the refs agreed there was not intent.
The Leafs take on the Nashville Predators on Wednesday night, so time will tell if Andersen is geared up between the pipes.
