The original offside review rule was implemented partly because of a blown offside call that resulted in a Colorado Avalanche goal. Now, they may have a hand in the next most controversial call.

This season has been overwhelmed by controversial goaltender interference calls, which has actually kind of taken some of the heat off offside reviews. This was a total flip from last season where it seemed like the lengthy offside calls had fans the most upset. We’ve had players, coaches and fans complain about the goaltender interference all season, but on the final game of the regular season with meaning, offside reviews have been thrust back into the spotlight.

Colorado and St Louis faced off yesterday and the winner would clinch the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference. In the first period of the game, the Blues were immediately at a disadvantage after a goal that appeared to be offside was reviewed and upheld as a good goal.

Alex Pieterangelo was not happy.

The Avalanche ended up winning the game 5-2, so it wasn't a game-deciding goal in any way, but as you see above, Pietrangelo did feel as though it was a momentum swing in the game. The game could have unfolded totally differently if this goal was called back and the Blues are eliminated from the playoffs as a result.

Those were obviously some strong words from the Blues captain, but fans seem to agree. Check out the play yourself – do you think it should have been called offside?
