The ending of Game 3 between the Blues and Sharks resulted in a controversy that rattled the hockey world, after what appeared to be an obvious hand pass from Timo Meier resulted in Erik Karlsson’s overtime winner.

It wasn’t just Blues fans that were left steaming by this call. Even on the other side of the playoff bracket, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour weighed in with a critical take of the officiating — and he offered a potential solution to prevent a repeat scenario.

Even after Game 3, NHL executive Kay Whitmore said that the call was a non-reviewable play, leaving the referees unable to change the ruling on the goal after the fact. Expanding review could be something that changes in the offseason.

The Game 3 result, however, is in the books. It must be a frustrating experience for the players, but the Blues will now have to battle back from a 2-1 series deficit.
