Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev knows how to play to an audience.

The 23-year-old won his third round at the US Open in New York on Friday night 7-6 (1), 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 over Feliciano Lopez with a little help from the American crowd.

During the marathon match, the crowd expressed their displeasure with Medvedev. When it was over, Medvedev went full heal mode and said he was able to win because of the crowd fueling him.

"I want all of you to know when you sleep tonight, I won because of you," Medvedev said.

In the first set, Medvedev, frustrated at the time, aggressively grabbed a towel from a ball person. Umpire Damien Dumusois didn't like the way conducted Medvedev himself and called a code violation. Upset by the call, the Russian chucked his racket towards Dumusois' direction by uttering a few words at him before flashing the middle finger towards the ump.

The booing only intensified throughout the match.

''The more you do this, the more I will win for you guys.''

The fifth-ranked player will now face Dominik Koepfer, ranked 118th, in the quarter-finals.
