Salvador Perez has been one of most consistent catchers in all of baseball since he made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals back in 2011.

Since becoming the team’s everyday starter back in 2013, the Valencia, Venezuela native has been named to five straight MLB All-Star teams, but that streak might be in jeopardy this season after his recent freak injury.

Less than 48 hours before the Kansas City Royal’s Opening Day game against the Chicago White Sox, Perez slipped while carrying his luggage and ended up suffering a Grade 2 MCL tear, which will keep him out anywhere from four to six weeks.

This isn’t the first time a professional baseball player has suffered a freak injury and it certainly won’t be the last time.

While with the Milwaukee Brewers, Scooter Gennett ended up slicing his finger on his shower rack while showering after a game and ended up needing five stitches which forced him to miss some time.

Former Oakland A’s prospect Michael Taylor ended up missing more time than Gennett did for an even more bizarre injury. While attempting to throw out his gum, the 6-foot-5 outfielder ended up slicing his hand on the light in the dugout and missed 11 days.

One of the most famous and most bizarre injuries suffered by a professional baseball player happened back in 1994 during spring training. Steve Sparks, then a minor leaguer with the Milwaukee Brewers, was inspired by motivational speakers who ripped phone books in half and attempted it himself. The result of the attempt? A dislocated shoulder, the seventh of his career.
