If you play hockey and are known to throw the body around, then you’re well aware of the risks associated with playing a hard style game, especially close to a bench.

Some players may see risk in stepping out of position to finish a check, while others can underestimate the quickness and agility of an opponent, and be left looking quite silly.

Such was the case over in the SHL, where 26-year-old denfenceman Alen Bibic propelled himself into a bench while looking to finish his check. The Rogle BK defender closed in on an opponent, only to see him cut away and make a clearing pass away to evade any harm.

Ouch.

At least it wasn’t through a gate that was left open. The commentators saying “see ya, see ya” at the end of the video fantastic.

Finishing your checks can definitely help wear an opponent down and make opponents think twice about holding onto the puck, depending on who’s delivering the check. But sometimes, players are wiser to hold off on completing the hit, as it can put them defenseless in a position that really doesn’t help out whatsoever.

Poor Bibic.
