It’s already hard to believe just how fast professional baseball players can sling a baseball. The hardest throwing pitchers can hit over 100 miles per hour. But what would happen if a baseball was to go ten times faster than that? What would it look like? What would the end results be?

The guys at Smarter Every Day were curious about that as well so they decided to build a cannon that could shoot a baseball at 1000mph. Let’s just say that you wouldn’t want to be the catcher on the other end of this ridiculous fastball.

Turns out the baseball absolutely explodes upon contact with the metal barricade. It almost disintegrates as the seams of the baseball quickly become undone.

If robot baseball ever becomes a thing, I’m taking this pitching machine as my first overall pick any day of the week. Then again, these same guys also built a helicopter batting machine that can absolutely launch home runs.
