Friday night was a big night for Canadian basketball superstar R.J. Barrett as the 17-year-old officially decided where he will attend college next year.
During a special episode of SportsCentre from the Lionhead Golf and Conference Centre in Brampton, Ontario, the Mississauga, Ontario native decided to go with the Blue Devils after narrowing his decision down to Duke, Oregon and Kentucky.
R.J.โs father, Rowan, is a retired professional basketball player who was a member of the Canadian Olympic team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, and is really good friends with Steve Nash. Theyโre so close that Nash is actually R.J.โs godfather, so you can bet the two-time NBA MVP and eight-time NBA All-Star had some nice words for his godson after his decision.
Considering R.J. has been learning from Nash since a young age, itโs no surprise that the 17-year-old is a top-ranked prospect heading into his freshman college year.
