Devon Levi is set to start in the crease for Team Canada during their only tune-up game ahead of World Juniors competition. He’ll be facing Russia in that match, and in order to prepare for the game he’s been speaking with Roberto Luongo.

The connection between Levi and Lu goes way, way back. While there was no age provided in the description, Levi explains a special moment he shared with Luongo during a goalie camp while growing up in Montreal.

Via Mark Masters:

"I remember seeing him in the rink and I went up to him and I wanted to introduce myself," Levi said. "He shook my hand with two fingers, because my hand was only as big as his two fingers. It was an unbelievable experience. He was one of my idols."

Levi was selected by the Florida Panthers in the 7th round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, #212 overall. This means that he’ll be working with Luongo, who oversees the team’s goaltending.

Levi said this of the two’s conversations since he joined Team Canada.

"The biggest message, which stuck out to me is, 'Enjoy the moment. There might be a lot of pressure, but you only get to live that pressure once and pressure is a privilege.' He said he looks back on his experience at World Juniors to this day and he enjoyed it like crazy ... his message really, really touched me."

Pretty sweet to think they first met when he was only able to shake Lu’s two fingers instead of his hand. These two were destined to work together at hockey’s highest level.
