Video games are taking over the world – more specifically, Fortnite is taking over the world. Athletes, celebrities and basically anyone else who likes video games has started playing the free game and last night confirmed that.

On Wednesday night, a group of people came together on Fortnite that basically shut down the internet. The Fortnite squad of Drake, Juju Smith-Schuster, Travis Scott and Ninja ended up breaking records in their game stream. They all joined the same squad and streamed their games on Twitch (Only Ninja was on camera, but the rest were on the mic).

Drake, Ninja, Travis and Juju were all trending on Twitter at one point as this moment seemed to truly capture the internet’s attention. They brought over 600,000 people in to watch their stream and plenty of jokes came from it.

This was truly a huge moment in gaming. Of course, the industry is big enough that don’t really need access to mainstream channels to be successful, but they definitely broke down some barriers for people who would probably enjoy watching streams, but were unlikely to do so before seeing some of their favourite stars partake.

It was truly a bizarre night and it will be interesting to see how this moment affects the gaming industry and who else will try to get in on the fun.
