In the do-or-die Game 5 of the WNBA Finals, the Washington Mystics defeated the Connecticut Sun at home, 89-78, to capture their first ever championship in franchise history.

The Mystics were led by 22 points by Emma Meesseman, who also earned Finals MVP honours while coming off the bench for Washington. Regular season MVP Elena Delle Donne added 21 points. Playing at home, the Mystics had the support of Wizards players including John Wall, Bradley Beal and C.J. Miles in attendance.

The basketball world was quick to show love for the brand new WNBA champs.
