Sport is a universal language.

No matter where you go, sports are something you can learn, pick up and understand fairly universally, no matter where you are from. The beauty in that is the way it brings people together.

Whether you're shooting hoops to blow off some steam, to hang out with your friends to play some pick-up.

Here are some of the best outdoor basketball courts in Canada. They're truly works of art.

Steve Nash family court - Vancouver, BC

The court is truly stunning.

This has to be one of the nicest places to hoop in Van.

The Steve Nash family court was named in honour of Canadian NBA player Steve Nash.

The colourful scheme painted on the court represents the teams Nash played for in the NBA — the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.

David Crombie Court – Toronto, Ontario

The view!!

Not only is sport universal, so is art and the huge mural at David Crombie park shows you exactly that!

This court not only has one of the best backdrops in the city, but the court has an amazing story behind it as well.

It's one of the most famous basketball courts in Toronto that was spearheaded by an organization that had the plan to bring the community together and use the surface for a mural that illustrates the neighbourhood’s values.

Underpass Park  – Toronto, Ontario

Being the home of Canada's basketball team, you'd have to expect that Toronto would have some of the coolest outdoor basketball courts.

Underpass Park is such a good example of how spaces you wouldn't really think were usable could be turning into such an incredible space.

A space underneath a highway in Toronto was transformed into one of the cities most visited outdoor basketball courts. Not only is it quite possibly the most publicly famous courts, the park has also found itself being used as a venue and backdrop for performances, events, dance routines, music videos, and even commercials.

How could it not be!

Kitsilano Beach Park - Vancouver, BC

A beach, ocean, and mountain view all in one? Yes please!

One of the busiest outdoor basketball courts in Vancouver but how can you blame anyone, it's scenic and right on the ocean. Plus it's right in the middle of the hustle and bustle so you'll never be short of anyone to play some pickup hoops with.

Mount Pearl ODR court - St. Johns, Newfoundland

Honourable mention because this IS kind of cool, at least it looks cool.

Does it get more Canadian than this? Finding any way to build ice rinks so the hockey players can hockey! The basketball courts of Mount Pearl in St. Johns were turned into an outdoor skating rink for the winter, and the optics are super cool.

Thanks to Tik Tok we've also seen this hockey and hoops combo in action.

This isn't just your average basketball court because it isn't JUST a basketball court!

The Bounce in Calgary's Easy Village is a multi-games park with a full sized basketball court, ping pong tables, Snakes and Ladders, and an AWESOME colourful mural that transforms the space, both on the court and around the court.
