Clayton Richard’s 36th birthday is certainly one he’s never going to forget.

On Thursday, September 12, 2019, the 11-year MLB veteran celebrated his 36th birthday but it wasn’t entirely a day of celebration.

Roughly six hours after the Blue Jays’ social media team sent out a tweet to wish Richard a happy birthday, they had to send out another tweet notifying fans that the team has released Richard in order to make room for Elvis Luciano on the roster.

We get that it’s a business, but could they really not wait one more day to make the move? It’s not like they’re competing for a playoff spot or anything right now.

Richard went 1-5 and posted a 5.96 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work during his time in Toronto.
