Down go the Maple Leafs, after dropping Game 6 and Game 7 back-to-back to the Bruins. After a strong season that had so many fans hoping for more, it’ll be an early exit from the playoffs for Toronto.

The margin between the Leafs and the second round was a thin one, but ultimately, they fell just short. One report from the Bruins locker room suggests that the team was surprised by the Leafs’ approach to their power play, in fact not changing their own defensive approach on the PK at all.

The Leafs finished 0-for-2 on the power play in Game 7, including a potentially pivotal chance early in the third period. All in all, they finished 3-for-16 on the power play in the series.

It’ll be a long summer of reflection for the Leafs, after a season that had so many in the fanbase feeling optimistic. The signing of John Tavares last summer was meant to push this team over the top, and Tavares expressed his disappointment after failing to break through.
