The St. Louis Cardinals were still hoping to make the playoffs this season, but they needed to keep winning to have a chance.

Tonight they were facing off against the division leading Cubs and for a moment, things were looking really good. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Paul DeJong hit what would have been a game-tying home run if Leonys Martin wasn’t in there. Martin climbed the wall to rob the home run and effectively ended the Cardinals season with one catch.

There can’t be many worse ways to be eliminated from playoff contention.

Of course they didn’t have very high hopes in the first place, but it ain’t over ‘til it’s over. Well, now it is 100% over. Goodbye Cardinals, we’ll see you next season.

Sweet dreams, baseball.
