For years, we've been wondering, waiting, and hoping for a "Space Jam" sequel.

We've heard rumour after rumour after rumour and whenever we think we're closer to a sequel to being announced, nothing ever comes to fruition.  Apparently the patience has paid off, though, because on Tuesday, this was tweeted out:

LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment revealed the team for "Space Jam 2" as Ryan Coogler (who's most recent work includes "Black Panther" and "Creed") will be producing the film and Terence Nane will be directing it.

In an article from Marisa Guthrie of 'The Hollywood Reporter', James explained his decision to team up with Ryan and talked a little bit about the highly anticipated project:

β€œThe Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” says James, β€œIt's so much bigger. I'd just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”

As per The Hollywood Reporter, production is tentatively set to begin in 2019 during the offseason.

Now that we know who LeBron will be working with to make a "Space Jam" sequel come to life, the only question that remains is what other players will be in the film.  We're not sure when we'll get that answer, but everyone is excited nonetheless.
