Last week, we showed you one of the most spectacular lacrosse-style goals you’ll ever see. Even though this type of goal is getting to verge of running its course, you still had to tip your cap to Halifax Mooseheads forward and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Otto Somppi for pulling this off.

On Friday night, Somppi and the Mooseheads were in action taking on fellow Maritimers, the Moncton Wildcats. And what a wild game it was.

Down 3-1 in the second period, the Mooseheads exploded for nine straight goals and went on to win by a final score of 12-5. It was the most goals Halifax had ever scored in franchise history on home ice.

Eight different players found the back of the net including two goals each from Somppi as well as Filip Zadina, who tallied two of his own to go along with his two apples. Zadina, a projected Top-5 pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft, just come off a strong outing at the World Juniors for the Czech Republic. The 18-year-old sniper is looking to follow in the footsteps of recent Mooseheads graduates Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, Nikolaj Ehlers, Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin by being selected at the top of his respective draft class.

Zadina is one of four Mooseheads prospects that could see their name called prior to the end of the second round. Jared McIsaac, a silky smooth, left-shot two-way defenceman, finished the game with one goal and two helpers. Benoit-Olivier Groulx, projected to be one of the first few centres taken in the upcoming draft, had two goals and three assists. Goaltender Alex Gravel had a shaky start with Moncton jumping out to the early 3-1 lead, but later settled in and stopped 32 of 37 shots in the victory. Gravel is the top ranked North American goaltender in the 2018 draft class, according to CSS in their midterm draft rankings.

The Mooseheads put up five goals in the second period and peppered Moncton in the shot totals by a margin of 20-4. The 12 goals was the most Halifax had scored this season.

Halifax sits second overall in the QMJHL with a 36-13-6-1 record, and have scored the second most goals in the entire league only behind the first place Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
