The Mark Stone sweepstakes are finally over.

With nearly 15 minutes ahead of the 3 PM ET NHL trade deadline, the Ottawa Senators sent Mark Stone to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for defenceman Erik Brannstrom, forward Oscar Lindberg and Dallas’ 2020 second round pick. The 26-year-old finishes his tenure with the Senators 10th all-time in goals after just six seasons with the team.

There was tons of speculation surrounding Stone. While some (accurately) predicted he’d get dealt, others remained hopeful he would re-sign with Ottawa and eventually earn the ‘C’. Fans brought out all kinds of reactions after the trade became official.

Stone joined the TSN panel to discuss the trade and Bob McKenzie was able to confirm that he’s expected to sign an eight-year deal with an AAV of $9.5 million when he becomes eligible to on March 1.

Stone is just one big fish to make his way to the Western conference ahead of the deadline. Other notable moves include Jimmy Hayes heading to the Winnipeg Jets, both Wayne Simmonds and Mikael Granlund heading to the Nashville Predators and Derick Brassard getting moved to the Colorado Avalanche.

Things are going to get very interesting in the West come April. Thoughts on the deal?
