The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a blazing hot start to the 2020-21 NHL season, and Leafs fans are starting to get accustomed to winning. That includes winning one or two-goal games, which are games the fan base is typically used to losing. It really does feel like the team is more legitimate than they’ve been in a long time.

Saying that, Monday was a different story. It was an old story. It was a story that Leafs fans know too well. A story they wanted to never reopen again.

The Leafs went up 5-1 in the 2nd period, playing against the lowly Ottawa Senators that are currently living in the basement of the North Division. While Leafs fans of old would possibly to expecting to blow the lead, there wasn’t really that kind of feeling until all of a sudden it was 5-2… 5-3… 5-4…

*Big ‘gulp’ from Leafs fans*

5-5. And the PTSD fully sets in.

Sure enough, the Sens scored the winner in overtime to defeat the Buds, and Hockey Twitter predictably went off.

Leafs Nation will be hoping for a better result when the take on the same Senators team Wednesday and Thursday.
