The Buffalo Sabres selected Owen Power with the 1st overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft on Friday night, making him just the 8th defencemen to go first overall in the NHL Draft over the past 30 years.

There’s a chance that Power could return to college next year for one final season before making the leap to the pros, but either way Sabres fans and the city of Buffalo were excited to hear his name called on Friday.

Shortly after the pick was made, the Sabres shared an awesome video message from Ryan Miller for the team’s newest prospect and it’s pretty clear the organization is already welcoming him with open arms.

Power played 26 games with the Michigan Wolverines last season and scored three goals and added 13 assists for 16 points. In two seasons with the Chicago Steel in the USHL from 2018-2020, Power scored 23 goals and totalled 65 points in 103 games.
