Few things are more entertaining in hockey than watching two goalies square off, drop their gloves, and throw repeated punches at one another. Fans at a recent United States Premier Hockey League game were delightfully treated to an intense goalie fight during a game between the league’s Dell Ducks and Chicago Cougars.

Things got ugly between the teams when Ducks forward Colton Maynard was given a five minute major head contact penalty. Fighting ensued and it escalated to the point where Ducks goaltender Corbin Moore left his own zone, skated all the way down the ice, and started throwing haymakers at Cougars goaltender Alex Jones. The ref initially thought about stopping the tilt, but decided to let the two go at it.

There was no holding back in that one.

Both players were awarded five minute fighting majors in a game the Ducks ultimately won 5-1. In case you were wondering, it was played at the Leafs Ice Centre in West Dundee, Illinois. Not in Toronto.

Moore and Jones are just two of many goaltenders to throw fists. Here’s a look at some other notable ones from the past.

Hockey isn’t the only sport that has featured goalies going toe-to-toe. This past summer, two Lacrosse goalies took part in an epic tendy showdown.

There’s a lesson to be learned from all of this. The next time you’re at a game and one team has a convincing lead late in the third period, make sure you stay in your seat. Because you never know if two goalies will say what the heck and put on a last second show for the crowd.
