The Los Angeles Angels did the unthinkable last night when they combined for a no-hitter in the team’s first home game since the passing of pitcher Tyler Skaggs. And as it turns out, the timing of it all played a role in making the feat even more surreal.

It turns out that the last combined no-hitter in the State of California occurred on July 13, 1991, the same day Tyler Skaggs was born. Bob Milacki, Mike Flanagan, Mark Williamson and Gregg Olson all contributed in a 2-0  Baltimore Orioles win over the Oakland athletics at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

Surreal.

You really can’t make it up.

The Angels honoured their late teammate by wearing his number 45 during the game and having his mother Debbie throw out the opening pitch. Mike Trout led the way for the Angels, going 3-4 with 6 RBI and a home run in the 13-0 win. He was very emotional in his post-game interview.

Last night is one that all baseball fans will have in the back of their heads for years to come.
