As the celebrations were roaring on the ice, and the broadcast of the World Juniors reached its conclusion, a little controversy started to make the rounds. Team U.S.A. were seen on the ice taking a second team photo with the “CHAMPIONS” banner on display, but posing alongside of them was a Team Canada logo plastered to the side of a blue bin.

Some called it a trash can, Trevor Zegras called it a barrel.

While the immediate reaction was in response to the Americans essentially calling the Canadians trash, Zegras explains that the meaning is a little deeper than that. Apparently the team had a barrel for each team they played, and the Team Canada barrel was simply the last one.

So basically, Zegras is claiming it’s a reflection of achievement more than it is a shot at Canada.

The explanation was obviously met with a lot of varying response, with some not believing that the intentions Zegras is depicting were actually the true intentions, and others seeming to be a little more understanding.

We’ll leave this one up to you.
