The tragedy that struck the Humboldt Broncos hockey team occupied many minds this weekend, partly because of how close to home it feels in the sports world.

The reason that moments like these really affect people so strongly is because of how easily it is to relate to the kids and staff members that lost their lives on Friday night. If you or anyone in your family has played sports, you’re probably familiar with what it’s like to ride the team bus to a game. This connection magnifies the impression it leaves on people and it got even stronger after seeing some photos from the scene of the accident.

The Canadian Press shared some of their photos of the aftermath and one photo stood out to several people on social media. A shattered slap shot DVD was found in the mud.

A lot of people grew up on the movie slap shot and there’s no doubt it has a place on many team buses around the world. The photo has reached and affected a lot of people, even going as far as reaching the Hanson brothers themselves.
