If you’re a hockey player, you know that a practice doesn’t require a whole of equipment. Two nets, pylons, and a shooter-tutor if one of your goalies can’t make it is all it really takes. The Washington Capitals recently proved though, that technology might start to play more of a part during team practices in the future.

During a skate, forward Evgeny Kuznetsov and recently acquired defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk set up a robotic defender to help them work on their stick-handling skills.

It’s a great idea and an innovative way to help players practice one-on-one situations.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen robots in the sport Engineering students at the University of Pennsylvania created their own little hockey game using robots they designed themselves, but on a much smaller rink.

Who knows, maybe teams will eventually start using moving pylons and other robotic pieces of equipment in the future?
