The best players in the NHL today have not only earned the praise from their peers, but also the praise from former greats like Wayne Gretzky, for example.
The greatest hockey player to ever play the game knows a thing or two about what it takes to be one of the best players in the NHL and on Monday on Leafs Lunch, Gretzky had some extremely high praise in the form of a comparison for Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews.
Extremely high praise doesn't do that comparison justice quite frankly. Gretzky wouldn't just toss that praise out to anyone, so you know he's serious when he says the Leafs' young stars remind him of himself and Messier.
Gretzky also discussed another Leafs' youngster, William Nylander, on Leafs Lunch and gave his take on his contract situation.
