Erik Karlsson is a two-time Norris Trophy winner and top tier NHL defenceman. When he was traded from the Senators to the San Jose Sharks the hockey world stopped. He was shipped off for a package of players one of them being their top 3 pick Tim Stutzle (which was awarded amazingly by Canadian icon Alex Trebek)

But what else did they get in the deal? Well, let us show you.

So far none of these assets have turned into anything special but there is still a lot of time for the Senators to reap the benefits. Stutzle is a dynamic centre aged only 18 and will have plenty of time to develop in the NHL. You can check out his nasty highlight reel below:

Josh Norris had himself a decent season in Belleville with 61 points in 56 games at only 21 years of age while Rudolf Balcers was also at a point per game pace in the AHL. Chris Tierney has been serviceable in the Senators nightly lineup and Mads Søgaard is only 19 years of age and has time to develop into a decent netminder. Plus, the Senators still have 2 more picks to utilize from this deal!

Karlsson still remains an elite skater and can certainly bounce back next season after coming off of one of the worst seasons in his career at age 30. If one or two of these assets turn into a superstar, Sens fans will be as happy as Alvin Gentry was when they got a haul of players for Anthony Davis.
