Whenever the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders play each other this season, both teams seem to throw all their defensive strategies out the window and focus solely on offence. The Hurricanes have had the Islanders’ number all season long, combining for 20 goals in three games this year, all of which they’ve won.

On Monday night, the Hurricanes made their final trip of the season to Brooklyn and doubled up the Islanders 8-4. Believe it or not, New York actually jumped out to the lead courtesy of an awkward bounce that led to Ryan Strome’s 13th of the campaign.

Twitter user DonnieN42 quickly responded to the tweet, and decided to chirp 22-year-old defenceman Jaccob Slavin while doing so.

If you don’t already know, Slavin ended up scoring just over five minutes later to tie the game at 1, and then added two more goals throughout the game for his first career hat trick. That’s when the official Hurricanes’ Twitter account stepped in to get the last laugh.

He was a good sport about the entire thing, since he is a Hurricanes fan after all, and was actually pretty happy that the Canes’ account fired back at him.

The Islanders and Hurricanes will do it all over again on Tuesday back in North Carolina.
