Have you heard? John Tavares is a Toronto Maple Leaf. If you hadn’t heard by now, we hope you enjoyed that vacation out of service or under rock, because that’s where you must’ve been to not hear this news.
In one of the biggest free agent signings in league history, John Tavares will be suiting up for his childhood favourite team - the Toronto Maple Leafs. Now the whole league is working to weather the shock wave of reaction and anticipation that has resulted.
For fellow newly signed free agent Carter Hutton, he doesn’t seem too concerned about playing against the Buds.
The very laid back answer is basically saying “Yeah but I own these guys…”. He doesn’t even quite know what his record is, but he does know how well he plays against the Leafs. Following a fact check, Hutton appears to be telling the truth.
Instead of showing concern about a Leafs team that looks a heck of a lot more daunting than last year already, Hutton instead seemed more worried what this signing and his new placement in Toronto’s bitter rivalry Buffalo would mean for his in-laws’ fandom.
Marrying into a family that is already loyal to another team has got to make for some fairly awkward Christmas dinner moments, especially when the two teams are locked in a long, historic, bitter rivalry.
