It was only a matter of time before Alexander Ovechkin was going to show up at the World Cup back in his homeland of mother Russia.

The Stanley Cup-winning captain of the Washington Capitals has finished all the partying back in North America and is currently in summer vacation mode (until he brings the cup over to Russia, of course).

Ovi uploaded an Instagram story featuring a fan ID pass with his face and name printed on.

In an interview with NHL.com, Ovechkin expressed a desire to bring Lord Stanley’s cup to the World Cup, but was unsure if it was logistically going to work.

"We're going to have to decide how we're going to do it, where we're going to do it," he said. "And I just want to share it with the people who love hockey, who have never seen the Stanley Cup, or they've seen it because lots of Russian players won it. … But, obviously, for my hockey school in Dynamo, I'm going to bring it for the kids to see that."

Alexey Sorokin, CEO of the 2018 World Cup Russian Local Organizing Committee, told Vox.com that they contacted Ovechkin to show up for the opening match prior to the start of the tournament.

Imagine if the Russians win the World Cup with Ovechkin present and the Stanley Cup was in the same vicinity. Now that would be a picture.
