The Baseball Hall of Fame is always an emotional moment for the inductees, but rarely ever like this.

On Sunday, taking the podium on behalf of her husband Roy Halladay for his posthumous induction into the Hall of Fame, Brandy Halladay gave a tearful and moving speech thanking the baseball community for their support.

She also thanked both of the organizations that Doc called home at different points in his career, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Due to Roy’s tragic passing in November 2017, his family requested that he would be inducted into the Hall without a team logo on his plaque. It was a highly unusual move, although not entirely unprecedented. Brandy says that both teams reached out quickly with their blessing for her decision.

Halladay played 12 seasons with the Blue Jays before being traded to Philadelphia, where he played another four seasons, and signed a ceremonial one-day contract with Toronto when he retired to do so as a member of the Jays.

He joins Mariano Rivera, Edgar Martinez, Mike Mussina, Harold Baines and Lee Smith in the Class of 2019.
