The Toronto Maple Leafs have taken a youthful approach in recent years with their lineup seeming to get younger and younger as they go along. The one obvious outlier to that general theme is Patrick Marleau.

From his well-known tenure to his grizzled bearded look, everyone knows about old man Marleau. When he signed a three year contract with the Leafs one of the biggest concerns was whether three years was too long. He’s THAT old.

On Saturday, Marleau got a little older. The longtime San Jose Shark turned 39, and well most 39-year-olds may celebrate with a few close middle-aged friends, Marleau found himself out on the town with two teammates that just made it out of teenagehood.

21-year-old Mitch Marner and 20-year old Auston Matthews (who actually turns 21 on Monday, funnily enough) took their elder teammate out to dinner. Despite being nearly half the age of Marleau, everyone seemed to be having a good time as the two young Leafs stars sung a laughter-filled happy birthday to #12.

Who says age matters? As the Leafs prepare for one of their most highly-anticipated season in a long time, they are still making sure to have a little fun with it.

You can really tell which one is Marner by the goofy laugh.
