ECHL forward Matt Robertson has given hockey fans a highlight to hold onto for a long, long time.

In a game against the Quad City Mallards, the Kansas City Mavericks forward took matters into his own hands with an incredible end-to-end rush. Before accelerating to the net, the 25-year-old brilliantly flipped the puck over Mallards defenceman Willie Raskob’s stick. The rest was history from there, as Robertson pulled a nifty move and put the puck past goaltender Matt O’Connor with a nifty move.

Unbelievable.

Robertson’s goal comes shortly after another pro put home an early goal-of-the-year candidate. In a matchup between the American Hockey League’s Iowa Wild and Manitoba Moose, Wild forward Gerald Mayhew miraculously scored a through-the-legs goal from way outside the crease.

Prior to each goal, a fellow AHLer also managed to go coast-to-coast for a tally. On December 27th, San Antonio Rampage forward Rocco Grimaldi turned on the Jets and dangled his way to a beauty.

Seeing a player go from one end of the ice to the other is rare in pro hockey today, but it’s always great to see the select few build up the courage and give it a shot.
