The world was stunned to hear that Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee, who was responsible for creating almost all of its most popular characters, passed away last week at the age of 95.

On Sunday, Atlanta Falcons receiver Mohamed Sanu unveiled a pair of custom cleats to honour the late comics creator, with a design inspired by arguably his most famous creation, Spider-Man.

Lee’s passing has had a profound effect across the entertainment industry, as he had a hand in far more than just comics. He was noted for his love of hockey, and even once partnered with the NHL on the Guardian 30 Project that reimagined his characters as team mascots.

Sanu wasn’t the only athlete to honour Lee’s memory; he touched so many people through his work, and Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets also paid respect with a pair of custom sneakers.
