Hanley Ramirez was one of the most dangerous shortstops both offensively and defensively when he broke into the league with the Florida Marlins during the 2006 season, but over time the injuries started to add up and many started to wonder if his glory days were well behind him.

The Samana, Dominican Republic native proved he still has what it takes to be an everyday player in his second season with the Red Sox by crushing 30 home runs to go with 111 RBI, but after he saw a dip in his numbers last year he was determined to get back into shape for the 2018 season. While it’s still too early to tell if he’s going to live up to his promise, he lived up to a different promise a couple of nights ago in Miami.

Ahead of Boston’s fourth game of the season against the Miami Marlins, the 34-year-old promised a young fan that he would give him his game-worn jersey if he hit a home run and that’s exactly what he did that night as he cranked his first home run of the season in the Red Sox’s 7-3 victory.

Ramirez spent six and a half years with the Marlins and is still a fan favourite in Florida. In 943 games with the organization, Ramirez hit 148 home runs, 482 RBI and 230 stolen bases to go along with a .300 batting average and a .374 OBP.
