Canada and the United States met once again in the gold medal game at the 2018 Olympics, but this time America came out on top in yet another classic between the two rival countries.

The United States won in a shootout and Canada's streak of winning gold in the Olympics in Women's Hockey ended in heartbreaking fashion.

Perhaps the moment that perfectly displayed the heartbreak was Jocelyne Larocque accepting her silver medal, but immediately removing it, which caused a bit of controversy.

Larocque explained why she removed her silver medal and on Thursday night, she issued a statement in which she apologized for her actions.

Anyone that has played sports competitively knows that emotions can sometimes get the best of you and that's what happened to Larocque.

It's not easy to make it to the gold medal game and lose to your rivals and even though the silver medal is a consolation prize, in the moment it feels more like losing in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

At the end of the day, Larocque and every Canadian player left their hearts out on the ice and we couldn't be prouder of them.

They say true success is found in the journey and not the destination. And so even though we were not able to bring home the Gold this time, the journey with this team has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. To my beloved teamates, i am proud to stand beside you today and there is no one else i would have put it all on the line with. Together we have built a foundation that will serve us for years to come. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us. We fought until the very end. We left it all out on the ice. I am proud to be Canadian, and grateful for all the love and support. To all of those who tuned in and supported our journey, you are a huge part of making this all worth while for us. Thank you and we will be back.
