Before Sunday night, the consensus was that Matt Duchene was going to get traded eventually, but nobody knew when it was going to happen, especially when you consider talks with Nashville and Ottawa were dead heading into the weekend.
As we now know, the three teams were able to come together and agree on a deal that on the surface seems like it helps every team involved.
This long and drawn out trade saga finally came to a conclusion Sunday night, but when did the saga actually begin?
After making the deal, Joe Sakic spoke to the media and revealed when Duchene formally asked to be traded.
Patience is a heck of a virtue because it took Sakic nearly an entire year deal the 26-year-old, but in his opinion, patience paid off as Duchene is going to a great franchise and the Avalanche got back a ton of pieces to help rebuild the franchise.
